Murdered On His Child’s Birthday, Family Seeks Justice For John

John Paul Cook, 36, was murdered in a robbery at his own home 24 years ago today. His 9-year-old’s birthday party had just ended.

The Cook, along with his girlfriend and son were in the residence on Ashkirk Place in Newark. At approximately 8:30 p.m., the suspects came in the front door of the residence and confronted the victims. The child received non-life-threatening injuries, however, after a struggle, the victim was shot multiple times causing his death.

The perpetrators have NOT been apprehended to date. “They’ve had 24 birthdays, Christmases, and vacations that this man didn’t get to share with his family.”
