Troopers Identify Woman Struck And Killed While Attempting To Cross Highway

Laurel– Delaware State Police have identified the pedestrian who died in a crash on September 4, 2020, northbound on Sussex Highway north of County Seat Highway, Laurel, as 63-year-old Audrey J. Pitter of Cliffside Park, NJ. Pitter was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Laurel- Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal pedestrian crash that occurred on September 4, 2020, at approximately 7:44 p.m., northbound on Sussex Highway north of County Seat Highway in Laurel.

A 2013 Ford Flex operated by a 33-year-old female from Greenwood, was traveling northbound on Sussex Highway in the left travel lane north of County Seat Highway. A 63-year-old female from Cliffside Park, NJ, was on foot attempting to cross Sussex Highway in a westerly direction, directly in the path of the Ford Flex. The operator was unable to avoid the pedestrian and the front right bumper struck her within the left travel lane. After the impact, the operator of the vehicle came to rest on the northbound shoulder of Sussex Highway.

The operator of the vehicle was not injured during the collision. The pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The northbound lanes of Sussex Highway were closed for approximately three(3) hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.

Identification is pending notification of next to kin.
