Newark– Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash involving a motorcycle that occurred at approximately 4:31 p.m., Sunday, October 18, 2020, on Interstate 95, according to Public Information Officer, Corporal/1 Jason Hatchell.
Hatchell said the initial investigation has determined a Honda CBR 600 operated by a 30-year-old Odenton, Maryland woman, was traveling southbound on Interstate 95 in the left lane. A 2009 Ford Flex was traveling in the right-center lane of the four southbound lanes approaching the Chapman Road overpass. The Flex merged into the left lane of travel and into the path of the motorcycle, according to Hatchell. The operator of the motorcycle attempted to avoid the collision, but struck the left side of the Ford Flex. Subsequently, the operator of the Honda motorcycle was ejected.
The operator of the Honda was transported to Christiana Hospital where she was pronounced deceased. Her name is being withheld at this time pending the notification of next of kin.
The operator of the Ford, a 29-year-old female from Woodbury, New Jesery who was properly restrained was not injured as a result of the crash.
Interstate 95 southbound was limited to the rightmost lane of travel for approximately 3 hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.

Newark – Rescue crews from Christiana Fire Company, along with crews from the Aetna, HH&L, and New Castle County Paramedics have responded to I-95 SB in the area of the service center for a crash involving a motorcycle.
Initial reports from the scene indicate that this a very serious accident.
Expect heavy delays in the area.
