The Delaware Office of the State Fire Marshal is investigating this morning’s house fire in Bear, Delaware where one person was found deceased inside a home, according to Assistant State Fire Marshal Michael Chionchio.
Chionchio said the blaze, reported shortly after 6:30 am, occurred in the 3700 block of Kirkwood Saint Georges Road. The Delaware City Fire Company arrived on the scene with smoke pouring from the house. Firefighters discovered one deceased male inside.
State fire investigators are currently on the scene searching for the fire’s origin and cause. One adult male was removed from the home and taken by the Division of Forensic Science for identification and an autopsy.
Heavy fire damage was estimated at $200,000. There were no other injuries. This investigation continues.
Breaking Report
Red Lion – At 6:35 Friday morning firefighters from the Delaware City, Christiana, Goodwill, Odessa, Port Penn and Minquas Fire Companies were dispatched to the 3700 block of Kirkwood Saint Georges Road for reports of a house fire.
While en route crews learned that a resident was reporting that their neighbor’s house was on fire.
First to arrive, Deputy 15 from the Delaware City Fire Company, reported smoke coming from the eaves of the home. Minutes later Deputy 15 reported that the occupant of the home was last seen last night but not seen this morning.
Shortly after their arrival, crews from Christiana’s Tower 12 reported that they had found a male occupant in the home who had succumbed. At 10 minutes into the incident, crews reported the search of the home was negative for additional victims.
Minutes later crews reported that the fire had been knocked down. Command then ordered all additional responding crews to cover duties in the area.
Investigators from the Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office are currently on scene investigating the cause of the fire.
New Castle County Paramedics also responded to assist at the scene.
