Last night (Nov 29), at approximately 5:00 p.m., patrol officers from the New Castle County Division of Police were dispatched to the area of Arbor Drive, in the community of Overview Gardens for the report of shots being fired.
Several patrol units arrived at the scene and located a man laying on the ground, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Lifesaving efforts were initiated; however, he was later pronounced deceased after being transported to an area hospital. Detectives identified the deceased man as 33-year-old Eddie Johnson.
Detectives from the New Castle County Division of Police Criminal Investigations Unit arrived at the scene and assumed the investigation.
The investigation revealed that prior to the patrol units arrival, a second victim, a 37-year-old female, had already been transported to a local area hospital for treatment of a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.
The detectives further learned that the second victim’s ex-boyfriend, 47-year-old, Vincent Young was outside of his house when the two victims drove by. An argument ensued and the detectives learned that Young retrieved a handgun and fired at both of the victims, according to police.
Responding officers were able to take Young into custody at the scene. As a result of the investigation VincentYoung was charged with one count of felony Murder 1st, two counts of felony Possessions of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, one count of Felony Assault 2nd, and one count of misdemeanor Endangering the Welfare of a Child. He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 11 and held in lieu of $232,000 cash bail.
