Delaware State Police are currently investigating a fatal hit-and-run pedestrian accident that occurred Saturday night on Naamans Road east of Marsh Road, according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Heather Pepper.
Pepper said on November 21, 2020, at approximately 9:38 p.m., a vehicle was traveling eastbound on Naamans Road in the left lane in the direction of Darley Road. A 40-year-old female from Wilmington was crossing Naamans Road from an unknown direction but was in the left lane of eastbound Naamans Road.
The front left of the vehicle struck the pedestrian in the left lane which resulted in the pedestrian landing in the left turn lane of Naamans Road. The vehicle then fled the scene in an unknown direction of travel, according to Pepper. A 2017 Chevrolet Volt operated by a 58-year-old female from Wilmington was traveling westbound on Naamans Road in the left turn lane in the direction of Marsh Road. The operator was unable to see the pedestrian in the left turn lane which resulted in the pedestrian being struck. The vehicle came to a controlled stop and stayed on scene after the collision. The operator and 60-year-old male of Wilmington, 30-year-old male of Trumansburg, NY, and 45-year-old female of Trumansburg, NY passengers were not injured.
Identification of the victim is pending notification to next of kin.
The hit-and-run vehicle may be black in color with heavy front left, left side damage, and missing the driver’s side mirror.
