Police: Suspect Attempted To Rob Dover Pizza Shop At Gunpoint

The Dover Police Department is investigating an attempted armed robbery that occurred at the Simaron’s Pizza and Steak Shop on West Loockerman Street, according to Public Information Officer Sergeant Mark Hoffman.

Hoffman said at approximately 5:34 p.m. on Tuesday, officers responded for a reported robbery at the restaurant. According to the employees, an unknown black male suspect entered the business and waited for customers to leave the restaurant. Once the customers left, the suspect attempted to jump the counter and gain access to the cash register, according to Hoffman.

Employees attempted to stop the suspect, however, he removed a black handgun from his waistband and exited the business, according to Hoffman. The suspect fled on foot in an unknown direction after placing the gun in his backpack. Hoffman described the suspect as a black male with New Balance shoes and an Under Armour backpack. A search of the area by responding officers was unsuccessful.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact the Dover Police Department at (302)736-7130. Callers may remain anonymous.
