Gunman Assault Victims During Newark Home Invasion Robbery

Newark Police are investigating a home invasion robbery that occurred over the weekend, according to Police Spokesman Lt. Andrew Rubin.

Rubin said just after 12:00 on Sunday, December 6, 2020, Newark Police were dispatched to a residence in the unit block of Church Street for a report of a home invasion robbery that had just occurred.

Arriving officers contacted two residents who were present at the time of the robbery. The residents advised police that a group of approximately seven unknown male suspects entered the residence through the front door and a group of the suspects confronted one of the residents. They assaulted the victim and struck him with a handgun. The victim was able to flee the residence.

A second resident was also confronted by others in the group. The suspects demanded property from the victim at gunpoint and then assaulted the victim. The suspects fled with personal property belonging to the victim, said Rubin.

The suspects were described only as black males and at least two were armed with handguns.

Neither victim required medical attention for their injuries.
