Newark– Delaware State Police have identified the name of the individual who died in a crash on December 07, 2020, on northbound Interstate 95 at State Route 1, Newark, as 34-year-old Candace Ewald of Newark, DE.
Newark– Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 3:10 a.m., Monday, December 07, 2020, on Interstate 95 at State Route 1, according to Public Information Officer, Corporal/1 Jason Hatchell.
Hatchell said the initial investigation has determined a 2007 Ford Fusion, operated by a 34-year-old female from Newark was traveling northbound I-95 approaching the junction with State Route 1. For reasons unknown, the Ford traveled out of the lanes of travel and into the right shoulder. The front of the Ford struck the rear of a 2105 Hyundai tractor-trailer that was stopped on the right shoulder.
The operator of the Ford who was wearing a seatbelt was pronounced deceased at the scene. Her name is being withheld at this time pending the notification of next of kin.
The operator of the tractor-trailer was not injured as a result of the crash.
Interstate 95 northbound was restricted to the left-most lane of travel for approximately 4 hours while the collision was investigated and cleared.
