New Castle Police make arrest after reported shots fired incident.
Officials said on 12/18/2020 just before 9 pm, New Castle City Police officers heard what they believed to be shots fired in the area of Battery Park and Army Creek.
Officers located a vehicle in the area and attempted to initiate a traffic stop when the vehicle fled to the downtown area of Old New Castle. The vehicle struck a parked car and a garage dumpster before one occupant fled the scene on foot. Two others were immediately detained. After a thorough search of the area, officers located the suspect and placed them in custody without incident.
Police said the subject discharging the firearm was identified as William Booker, 20-years-old of New Castle. Multiple shell casings were located at the scene with no victims struck and the weapon was recovered.
Booker was also identified as the subject driving the vehicle that fled from police. Booker was arrested for discharging a firearm, felony disregarding a police officer’s signal, multiple traffic charges related to the pursuit, leaving the scene of an accident, possession of a weapon during the commission of a felony, resisting arrest, and other charges related to the incident.
Booker was transferred to the Department of Corrections in lieu of bail.
