Man Shot After Four Open Fire At Newark-Area Hotel

Delaware State Police are investigating a shooting incident that occurred early this morning that left one man wounded, according to Public Information Officer, Corporal/1 Jason Hatchell.

Hatchell said the incident occurred on January 1, 2021, at approximately 12:16 a.m., when Troopers were dispatched to the Red Roof Inn located at 415 Stanton Christiana Road, Newark, in reference to a shooting.

The investigation has determined a 29-year-old male from New Castle, had a verbal exchange with four unknown male suspects in the parking lot as he was walking to his car. As the victim drove away from his parking spot, all four suspects began shooting at the victim’s vehicle striking it numerous times, said Hatchell. The victim was struck by one bullet in the chest. He drove to the neighboring Royal Farms where a clerk rendered first aid until troopers arrived. The victim was transported to an area hospital and treated for a gunshot wound.

Hatchell did not mention the victim’s condition, however, Initial radio reports from the scene indicate that he was in very serious condition at the time of transport.

There is no suspect information at this time and no other reported injuries.
