Newark Man Indicted In Fatal Shooting At Bear Wawa Last October

On March 22, 2021, evidence was presented to the New Castle County Grand Jury regarding the investigation of the October 21, 2020, shooting death of Daniel Haye, 24, of Newark. This incident occurred in the parking lot of the Wawa located at 1100 Pulaski Highway in Bear, according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Heather Pepper.

Pepper said as a result, Troy E. Waller, Jr., 23, of Newark, was indicted for the following charges:

Murder First Degree (Felony)
Conspiracy First Degree (Felony)
Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony (Felony)
Possession of a Firearm by Person Prohibited (Felony)

Waller was already incarcerated at Howard R. Young Correctional Institution for a weapons charge related to this incident and remains in the custody of the Department of Corrections. Arraignment is pending at this time.

In October 2020, Pepper said at approximately 11:58 p.m., troopers were dispatched to Wawa for a reported shooting.

The investigation determined 24-year-old Daniel Haye of Wilmington had an altercation in the parking lot and was subsequently shot twice while standing outside of a vehicle. Haye was transported to an area hospital by ambulance for a gunshot wound to his torso and leg, however, he died as a result of his injuries.
