Middletown Man Facing Murder Charge In Bear Crash

Bear- Delaware State Police arrested 30-year-old Jordan Griffith of Middletown, for murder and related charges following a fatal motor vehicle crash that occurred in September of 2020, according to Public Information Officer, Corporal/1 Jason Hatchell.

Hatchell said on September 28, 2020, at approximately 6:23 p.m., a 2002 Silver Ford F-150 pickup truck operated by Jordan Griffith was traveling southbound Summit Bridge Road (Route 896) towards the intersection of Denny Road with a red traffic signal. At this time, a silver 2017 Chevy Malibu sedan was traveling westbound from Howell School Road into the intersection to initiate a left turn onto southbound Summit Bridge Road. The Ford F-150 proceeded into the intersection against the red traffic signal and struck the passenger side of the Chevy Malibu, which was occupied by the operator, 48-year-old Lisa Davis of Bear, and front-seat passenger, a 15-year-old male of Bear, said Hatchell. Both occupants in the Chevy Malibu were properly restrained.

Davis was transported to an area hospital where she was pronounced deceased. The 15-year-old passenger was transported to an area hospital for serious injuries.

During the on-scene investigation, troopers smelled an odor of alcoholic beverages emitting from Griffith and a DUI investigation ensued. Griffith was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, said Hatchell.

Southbound Summit Bridge Rd (Route 896) between Glasgow Ave. and Brennan Blvd. was closed for approximately 3 hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.

On April 17, 2021, after a toxicology report yielded positive results, Griffith turned himself in at Troop 2 and was charged with the following crimes:

Murder 2nd Degree (Felony)
Vehicular Assault 1st Degree (Felony)
3rd Offense Driving Under the Influence of a Combination of Alcohol and any other Drug (Felony)
Unreasonable Speed
Failure to Stop at a Red Light
Failure to Have Insurance Identification in Possession
Griffith was arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $105,300 cash bond.

Bear – On Monday, September 28, 2020: at 6:23 p.m. New Castle County Paramedics were dispatched to assist Christiana Fire Company with a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Denny Road and Summit Bridge Road.

Initial reports indicated one vehicle had overturned and multiple patients were seriously injured. Mutual aid units responded from Aetna Hose, Hook & Ladder Company, Volunteer Hose Company of Middletown, and Delaware State Police Aviation Section’s Trooper 4.

One patient was flown by Delaware State Police helicopter to A.I. duPont Hospital for Children| Nemours in critical condition. A second patient was transported to Christiana Hospital by ground in critical condition. A third patient was transported by ground in serious condition. Delaware State Police are investigating the incident.
