Police: Woman Caregiver Beaten By “Client” In Newark’s Nottingham Green Development Thursday

Newark Police are investigating an assault that took place Thursday morning, according to Lt. Andrew Rubin.

Rubin said on May 20, 2021, at about 8:42 hours, Newark Police responded to a group home in the 200 block of Vassar Drive for a report of an assault in progress.

Several readers reported hearing police officers and rescue crews racing towards the scene with sirens blaring. The home, which houses individuals that Rubin describes as clients and their caregivers,  is located in the Nottingham Green subdivision just across the street from Downes Elementary School.

Rubin said the responding officers arrived to find a female caregiver who had been assaulted by a client of the facility.  The woman, reportedly badly injured, was treated at the scene before being transported by ambulance to nearby Handloff Park, where Trooper 4 had landed. The woman was then airlifted to the Trauma Center for treatment of her injuries. Rubin said she is listed in stable condition.

Rubin said that no weapons were involved in the assault, however, FSU has learned that initial reports indicated that the woman was kicked in the head during the incident.

The “client” was also transported to an area hospital for evaluation.

The incident is currently under investigation by the Newark Police Department Criminal Investigations Division.
