Pair Of Crashes Shut Down I-495 NB Tuesday Morning

Just after 7:30, Tuesday morning crews responded to I-495 at the 12th bridges for reports of a crash involving a dump truck. Shortly after arrival crews requested HAZMAT crews and closed the interstate.

Early reports indicate that the dump truck struck the 12th Street bridge and lost its bed. Photos from the scene show the bed laying in a large pool of hydraulic fluid in the middle of I-495.

Motorists were being diverted off I-495 at the 12th Street exit when another accident occurred at I-495 NB at Route 13. Due to the second accident motorists were then diverted on to Route 13 before closing I-495 altogether.

Crews are in the process of closing I-495 NB at the I-95 southern split. The offramp to Route 13 has reopened. Motorists trapped between the split and Route 13 are being pushed onto Route 13.

Crews are in the final stages of cleanup at the first crash.
