Update: Three WPD Officers Shot Overnight, Subject Reportedly Dead

Update: Sources tell FSU that a police robot was sent into the apartment Thursday morning. Police reportedly found a subject deceased inside the apartment. Although police have not confirmed that the incident is over and the suspect is dead the scene appears to be wrapping up. This is a developing update.

Breaking Report

Just before 11:00, Wednesday evening rescue crews responded to the 2400 block N Market Street for reports that three police officers have been shot.

Initial reports from the scene indicate that the officers were shot while responding to a domestic incident.

Early reports from the scene indicated that two officers were shot in the legs and the third was shot in the hand. All three officers were transported to area hospitals where they are listed in stable condition.

Shortly after the reports that the officers had been shot, Wilmington SWAT officers responded to the scene for a barricaded subject. Initial reports indicated that two people were being held hostage in an apartment on the fourth floor. Early Thursday morning members of the tactical team pulled two women and a child from the apartment building using a Wilmington Fire Department Ladder Truck.

Overnight residents in the area were asked to shelter in place.

Sources tell FSU Thursday morning that the situation is still active and that the shelter in place is still in effect.
