Wilmington Police have arrested an 18-year-old and a 15-year-old in connection with a shooting incident that was previously unreported to the public.
Officials said that on June 9, 2021, police officers located a 28-year-old male gunshot victim who arrived at the hospital in critical condition.
Wilmington Police said the case was assigned to Detective Anthony Ford of the Criminal Investigations Division. Through the course of his investigation, it was determined that the injury resulted from a shooting incident that took place on that date at approximately 3:01 p.m. in the 200 block of Garden Court. Detective Ford identified two suspects – 18-year-old Nazer Hayman-Cooper and a 15-year-old male – in connection with this incident, police said Thursday.
On June 16, members of the Crisis Management Tactical Team, Drug, Organized Crime and Vice Division and the Street Crimes Unit located both suspects and took them into custody without incident.
Cooper has been charged with the following offenses:
Assault (First Degree)
Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony
Attempted Robbery (First Degree)
Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited
Conspiracy (Second Degree)
Cooper was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $67,000 secured bail.
The 15-year-old male has been charged with the following offenses:
Assault (First Degree)
Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony
Attempted Robbery (First Degree)
Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited
Conspiracy (Second Degree)
The 15-year-old male was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and was committed to the New Castle County Detention Center on $106,000 secured bail.
Officials did not say why this shooting went unreported to the public, however, June 9, 2021, was the same day that three Wilmington Police officers were shot while responding to a domestic dispute.
