Just after 10:20, Sunday evening rescue crews from the Wilmington Manor Fire Company along with New Castle County Paramedics were dispatched to the 150 block of South Dupont Highway for reports of a pedestrian struck.
Crews arrived at the scene to find the pedestrian in the roadway. They were also met with a large crowd and an ongoing fight. Several sources tell FSU that the driver of the striking vehicle was pulled from their vehicle and assaulted by members of the crowd. This is believed to be the fight reported by first responders.
At least one patient was transported to the hospital with unknown injuries.
Earlier today a reader sent FSU a video of the aftermath. That reader estimated the crowd to be around 200 people.
Although FSU can confirm that police responded in large numbers no police agency has issued a statement regarding the incident.
