Troopers Update Fatal Magnolia Accident, Child Dead, 6 Others Hospitalized
Magnolia – Rescue crews from across Kent County are responding to Route 1 in the area of Trapshooters Road for an accident with multiple injuries.
Command has declared a Level 1 Mass Casualty Incident. At least one patient has been ejected from a vehicle additionally at least one patient is reported trapped.
Command has asked for seven ambulances and three helicopters.
Route 1 is closed in both directions.
Update: We are awaiting an update on this accident from the Delaware State Police.
Statement from the Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company
“On today’s date, at 2042 hours the MVFC along with a rescue company out of Frederica Volunteer Fire Company Kent County Department of Public Safety paramedics, Delaware State Police Aviation Section were alerted for a vehicle accident with a subject trapped in the area of route 1 NB and Mile Marker 54 (just south of Trap Shooters Road). Upon units responding, they were advised that it would be a Level 1 MCI (mass casualty incident with the possibility of 5 to 10 patients) due to the number of possible patients, this brings in additional BLS and ALS units to the scene and puts the area hospitals on notification of what’s possibly coming to them. Crews from Bowers Fire Company Inc. and Camden-Wyoming Fire Company had staffed rescues/squads that were started for assistance. Additional Aviation units were started from Christiana LifeNet with the possibility of having to fly 3 patients. Crews arrived to find multi subjects ejected from the vehicle and 1 heavily entrapped inside the vehicle on its roof. Crews worked for over an hour to free the entrapped patient from the vehicle due to the level of damage to the vehicle. With the nature and events of this crash, no photos will be released on our part. The crash is under investigation by the Delaware State Police.”
