Board Of Education Meeting Goes Behind Closed Doors, Parents Plan To Attend Anyway

The Delaware State Board of Education has canceled tonight’s in-person meeting. A notice attached to tonight’s agenda states that the meeting will now be a virtual meeting.

In order to ensure that the State Board can conduct its business and that all members of the public can be heard in a safe and accessible manner, the State Board will now hold its August 19th regular monthly meeting virtually*. There will be no physical meeting location for the public to attend in-person. Directions on how the public may attend this meeting have been posted on page 2 of this agenda and the Public Meeting Calendar

Despite the move to virtual, Moms in the Facebook group Delaware Medical Freedom Alliance plan to attend according to a press release sent out this morning.

This meeting was originally going to be both in-person and by zoom, however, our state board members have backed out of the in-person portion, and it will be zoom only.
That said, parents, families, and children are all STILL meeting outside the building today at 5 PM! Those like myself who have signed up to speak will do so from outside the building.
You see, while our board may change plans on all of you (us) last-minute, our group of moms refuses to do that to you all after asking you to meet us there.
So come on out!! We will stand in solidarity tonight!

Starts at 5 PM and ends at 5:30 PM, so don’t be late!

Address:
401 Federal Street
Dover

It’s not clear if the state decided to go behind closed doors due to recent heated school board meetings across the state.  On Monday the Brandywine School District canceled its meeting when some parents refused to wear masks at the meeting. The meeting has been rescheduled for Thursday at 5:30 p.m. It will be a virtual meeting.

The Brandywine meeting was not the first flashpoint between parents and school board members. Earlier this month parents were brought to tears when talking about their children wearing masks at an Appoquinimink School Board meeting. And last night several parents voiced their opposition to Governor Carney’s mask mandate at the Red Clay School Board Meeting.

That meeting was viewed by over 10,000 times.

Some of those that support the idea that a mask should be a choice point to the video below. They say if it’s a choice for Delaware State Senators to wear a mask it should be a choice for their children too.
