Delaware State Trooper Reportedly Struck On I-95 Saturday Morning

Newark – Delaware State Police are investigating a motor vehicle accident that occurred just after 1:30 Saturday morning, on I-95 southbound near Salem Church Road in Newark.

Sources in law enforcement tell FSU that t wo Troopers were investigating a disabled vehicle when one  Trooper was struck by a vehicle. We have conflicting reports regarding the second Trooper. It’s not clear if the second Trooper was also struck.

Initial reports from the scene indicated that a pedestrian had been struck. Follow-up reports indicated that two patients were treated at the scene.

Details regarding the crash and the Troopers’ injuries have not been released at this point.

As a result of the crash, all of I95 southbound was closed at Route 273 with police investigated.

DSP put out the following statement Saturday morning.

Newark – Delaware State Police are on the scene of a motor vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 1:34 a.m., this morning, August 14, 2021, on I95 southbound near Salem Church Road.

As a result of the crash, all of I95 southbound is currently closed at SR 273 with emergency response vehicles on scene. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and seek alternate routes of travel.
