The Delaware State Police are investigating the robbery of a Newark area gas station that occurred this morning, according to Public Information Officer, Senior Corporal Jason Hatchell.
Hatchell said the incident occurred at approximately 6:38 a.m., Thursday, August 12, 2021, at the Exxon gas station, located at 4600 Ogletown Stanton Road in Newark, when troopers responded to a knifepoint robbery.
The investigation determined a male suspect entered the store and confronted a male employee behind the sales counter. The suspect displayed a knife and demanded money from the register. The employee complied with demands but was unsuccessful at opening the register. The suspect then slammed the register to the floor causing it to break open. The suspect fled out of the store with an undisclosed amount of cash and was last seen running away from the scene northwest on Harmony Road. The employee was not injured as a result of the incident.
The suspect was described as a black male approximately 35-years-old, 5’8”-6’0” tall, 185-205 lbs., wearing a light-colored shirt, jeans, a black baseball hat, and face mask.
