New Castle County Executive Matt Meyer announced a new service for young readers who love listening to a good story. Children can call in any time of the day or night to listen to stories read by their favorite library staff or special guests.
New Castle County Libraries has launched Dial-a-Story, a new service that provides our youngest community members access to free recorded stories. Patrons can reach Dial-A-Story by using a phone to call 302-991-0199. From there, patrons can follow the prompts to choose which children’s story they would like to hear. New recordings are released every month; each story is between 5-15 minutes long. Internet access is not required.
August’s featured stories include Uni the Unicorn, Dragons Love Tacos, Not Quite Narwhal, I Talk Like a River, When a Dragon Comes to Stay, Clark the Shark, Baby Shark, and Bedtime Shark, Thank You Omu, Duncan the Story Dragon, Pirates Don’t Go To Kindergarten, Are you My Mother, Mother Goose to the Rescue, No Buddy Like a Book, The Feelings Book, and The Little Mouse, the Red Ripe Strawberry, and the Big Hungry Bear.
“With pandemic restrictions easing, our libraries are working hard to return to normal,” said County Executive Meyer. “But while we are all excited to return to in-person activities, we’ve seen that there will be continued demand for programs beyond the library’s walls. We’re thrilled to be able to offer Dial-a-Story to our community. Families who are homebound, have busy schedules, or are feeling under the weather can still enjoy storytimes with New Castle County Libraries from anywhere 24/7. All they need is access to a phone.”
