Man Charged In Recent Wilmington Shooting

Wilmington Police have made an arrest in connection with a shooting incident that took place on August 21.

Police said on August 21 at approximately 6:54 p.m., police were dispatched to the 1700 block West 5th Street in reference to a shooting incident that had occurred. Police located a 26-year-old male gunshot victim who was transported to the hospital in stable condition.

The case was assigned to Detective Brendan Shea of the Criminal Investigations Division. Through the course of his investigation, Detective Shea identified 31-year-old Jamar Smith as a suspect in the incident police said.

Smith was taken into custody on August 24 without incident and has been charged with the following offenses:
Assault (First Degree)
Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony
Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited
He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $123,000 cash-only bail.
