Police: Two Charged In Dover Cornfield Murder

Delaware State Police arrested two individuals Saturday in connection to a homicide that occurred last weekend in Dover, according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Heather Pepper.

Pepper said on Saturday, August 21, 2021, at approximately 8:57 a.m., the Delaware State Police Homicide Unit responded to the 2000 block of Dyke Branch Road in Dover, for a deceased subject located in a field. The victim, identified as Anna Hurst, 30, of Dover, was found in a cornfield with apparent gunshot wounds to the upper body. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Through investigative measures, Delaware State Police identified Ronald D. Suber Jr., 29, of Dover, and Tori L. Balfour, 30, of Felton, as suspects in this incident, Pepper said Sunday. On August 28, 2021, Delaware State Police arrested Suber and Balfour in New Castle County. They were taken into custody and transported to Delaware State Police Troop 3 where they were charged with the following crimes:

Prior to authorities alerting the public that Dyke Branch Road was closed due to police activity on that Saturday morning, rescue crews responded a short distance away to Country Haven Lane east of Dover for a shooting. The initial reports indicated that one person was found shot in the foot and was transported to an area hospital. Those reports also indicated that the subject found shot may have been wounded at around 11:00 the previous evening.

At around 11:30 on that Saturday DelDOT posted a message alerting motorists that Dyke Branch Road was closed due to police activity.

Suber has been charged with attempted murder in addition to murder. It’s not clear if the person found shot on Country Haven Lane is the reason for the attempted murder charge.

Ronald Suber Jr. has been charged with:

Murder First Degree (Felony)
Attempted Murder First Degree (Felony)
Two Counts- Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony (Felony)
Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited (Felony)
Suber was arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court #7 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $2.5 million cash bond.

Tori Balfour has been charged with:

Conspiracy Second Degree (Felony)
Balfour was arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court #7 and committed to Delores J. Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution on a $2,000.00 secured bond.
