Troopers Confirm Teen Was Shot While Driving On I-95, Two Others Uninjured

The Delaware State Police are investigating a shooting on I-95 that occurred after midnight sending a teen to a local hospital, according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Gary Fournier.

Fournier said the incident was reported around 12:30 a.m. Sunday, August 15, 2021, when Troopers responded to the area of I-95 northbound and Churchmans Road for a report of a subject shot. Upon their arrival, they made contact with three 17-year-old females who advised they were northbound on I-95 when they heard what they thought were rocks hitting their car. The 17-year-old operator soon realized it was gunshots when a window shattered. She immediately pulled to the shoulder of the road and observed an injury to her right clavicle.

The 17-year-old operator was transported by EMS to an area hospital where she was treated and released with non-life-threatening injuries.

Fournier said no description of the vehicle or suspects was obtained through the witness’ accounts.

Neither of the other two teenage passengers was injured during the incident.

This incident is being investigated by Delaware State Police Troop 2 Criminal Investigative Unit. Anyone who may have witnessed the shooting or has information regarding the case should contact Detective C. Strecker by calling 302-834-2620.
