Man Defending Woman Stabbed In Georgetown, Suspect In Custody

Georgetown Police have arrested 27-year-old Victor Morton of Georgetown in connection with a stabbing that occurred in a wooded area near Douglas Street, according to Police Spokesman Detective Joey Melvin.

Melvin said on September 6, 2021 officers located a 19-year-old male victim with a stab wound to his shoulder. Officers learned that a 28-year-old female engaged in a verbal argument with Morton, at which time he produced a knife and attempted to stab her. A 19-year-old male intervened and was subsequently stabbed in the shoulder by Morton said Melvin.

Georgetown Police located Morton on the railroad tracks north of Douglas Street and took same into custody without incident. Upon taking Morton into custody, officers located a folding knife on his person. The 19-year-old victim was transported to the hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Morton was transported to Georgetown Police Department and charged with the following-

Assault 2nd degree
Two counts of Aggravated Menacing
Possession of a Weapon During the Commission of a Felony
Tampering with Evidence

Morton was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court and committed to Sussex Correctional Institute in lieu of $86,000 cash bail.
