Route 9 To Be Closed In Port Penn For More Than A Month

DelDOT has announced that Route 9 will be closed for the replacement of tidal flood gates starting on Monday, October 4, 2021, and end on Friday, December 17, 2021, pending weather.

The closure will take place on Route 9 between Thorntown Road and South Reedy Point Road in Port Penn.

Detour: Route 9 Northbound: Motorists will be detoured at Delaware City Port Penn Road with the detour proceeding west on Port Penn Road then turn north on US 13 across the St. Georges Bridge then turn east onto Cox Neck Road continuing on Clinton Street into Delaware City.

Local access will be available to Thorntown Road from the south. US 13 Southbound, School House Road, Hamburg Corner River Road, and 5th Street: Traffic will be detoured west to US 13, then south on US 13 across the St. Georges Bridge, and then east via Port Penn Road with the detour ending at Port Penn Road, Delaware City.

Local access will be available to South Reedy Point Road from the north. Residents will have local access but may need to take the posted detour route. Detour routes will be posted for motorists.
