Driver Killed In Saturday Morning Accident Near Dover

Dover- Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal single motor vehicle collision that occurred this morning on White Oak Road, according to Public Information Officer, Senior Corporal Jason Hatchell.

Hatchell said on Saturday, October 23, 2021, at approximately 8:18 a.m., a 2002 Toyota Highlander was traveling eastbound on White Oak Road towards Bayside Drive (Route 9). The Toyota drifted from the eastbound lane, across the westbound lane, and off the northern edge of the roadway. The Toyota traveled down into a ditch before striking a large tree. After impact, the Toyota rolled over and came to rest onto its roof, partially within the westbound lane.

The 59-year-old male operator and sole occupant of the Toyota was transported to BayHealth Kent Campus hospital where he was pronounced deceased. Identification of the victim is pending notification to the next of kin.

White Oak Road between Bayside Drive and Long Point Road was closed for approximately 3.5 hours while the crash was investigated, and the roadway cleared.
