Dover – The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal motorcycle crash that occurred Friday afternoon west of Dover, according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Gary Fournier.
Fournier said the collision occurred around 3:21 p.m., Friday, October 15, 2021, as a 2005 Honda Accord operated by a 32-year-old Dover man was traveling westbound on Forrest Avenue (SR8) preparing to turn left onto Nault Road. A 2007 Suzuki GSX-R motorcycle operated by a 25-year-old Henderson, Maryland man was traveling eastbound on SR8 approaching Nault Road. The Honda Accord began to make the left turn directly into the path of the motorcycle. In an attempt to avoid a collision, the rider applied the brakes and laid the motorcycle down on its side before both the rider and the motorcycle struck the right side of the car. The force of the impact caused the Accord to rotate clockwise, coming to a stop in the southbound lane of Nault Road. The Suzuki motorcycle continued to slide in an easterly direction coming to rest near the double yellow centerline of Forrest Avenue.
The 25-year-old rider was transported from the scene by EMS to Bayhealth Kent General where he was pronounced dead.
The 32-year-old man was properly restrained and was uninjured in the collision.
SR8 in the area of the collision was closed for approximately three hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
