Original Story
Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal single-vehicle collision that occurred Monday afternoon north of Harrington, according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Heather Pepper.
Pepper said on October 11, 2021, at approximately 1:28 p.m., a 47-year-old Harrington woman was operating a 2009 Dodge Charger southbound on South DuPont Highway (US 13) south of Paradise Alley Road. The operator veered off the west edge of the roadway, attempted to regain control, and turned back into the right lane. As a result, the vehicle started to travel in a clockwise direction and traveled off the west edge of the roadway for a short distance before striking a Verizon utility pole with the left front fender. After striking the pole, the Charger rotated counterclockwise and overturned onto its roof before coming to rest in a private driveway.
The operator was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Identification is pending notification to next of kin.
The roadway was closed for approximately 2.5 hours as the accident was investigated and the roadway cleared.
