Route 896 SB is closed north of the C & D Canal due to an incident involving multiple victims.
Initial reports from the scene indicate that two people may have been killed and two others were stabbed.
The initial incident reportedly occurred on Camerton Land in Townsend.
Trooper 2 and Trooper 4 have transported both patients to CER.
Police have a suspect in custody according to sources in law enforcement. . The suspect is also wounded.
The crash near the C & D Canal appears to be where police caught up with the suspect.
Reader said “police pursuit of a red truck crossed lanes on 896 south of Summit Bridge. The red truck smashed into southbound traffic. The vehicle directly in front of mine was totaled. Police apprehended the suspect out of the vehicle. Major traffic delays around the area as emergency personnel continue to respond. The accident missed my truck by a foot at most,”
Delaware State Police has issued the following traffic advisory for the following roadways:
- Southbound Summit Bridge Rd. (SR 896) between Denny Rd. and Old Summit Bridge- Bear
- Fieldsboro Rd. at Northbound DuPont Parkway (US 13)- Townsend
The roadways will be closed for an extended period of time due to a criminal investigation being conducted by New Castle County Police Department. All inquiries concerning the criminal investigation should be directed to New Castle County Police Department.
