Police: New York Man Facing Multiple Felony Charges After Traffic Stop

Delaware State Police have arrested Orion Brabham, 53, of Staten Island, NY, on felony drug charges following a traffic stop early Wednesday morning in Newark, according to Public Information Officer, Senior Corporal Jason Hatchell.

Hatchell said on December 29, 2021, at approximately 12:25 a.m., a trooper conducting proactive patrol observed a green Dodge Challenger impeding traffic. The trooper noticed that the vehicle was traveling at a slow speed and made a lane change without signaling in the area of the welcome center on southbound I-95 in Newark.

The trooper initiated a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, Orion Brabham, 53, of Staten Island, New York and a 49-year-old front passenger. The trooper immediately smelled an odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle said Hatchell. The suspects were detained and a subsequent vehicle search led to the discovery of approximately 1051.1 grams of cocaine, approximately 2438.2 grams of marijuana, and over $600 in suspected drug proceeds.

Brabham was charged with the following crimes:

Possession of a Controlled Substance Tier 3 Quantity (Felony)
Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Substance Tier 2 Quantity (Felony)
Possession of a Controlled Substance Tier 2 Quantity (Felony)
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
Drive Vehicle at a Slow Speed as to Impede the Flow of Traffic
Failure to Signal

Brabham was arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court #2 and was committed to the Howard R. Young Corrections Institution on $54,502 cash bond.

The front passenger was not charged.
