Newark– Delaware State Police are investigating the robbery of a Newark area gas station that occurred this morning, according to Public Information Officer, Senior Corporal Jason Hatchell.
Hatchell said the incident occurred at approximately 10:32 a.m., Tuesday, December 14, 2021, at the Getty gas station, located at 1147 Christiana Road in Newark, when troopers responded to an armed robbery. The investigation determined a male suspect entered the store and confronted a male employee behind the sales counter. The suspect displayed a handgun and demanded money from the register said Hatchell. The employee complied and the suspect removed an undisclosed amount of cash from two registers. The suspect then forced the employee to the safe, had him open it, and instructed the victim to turn away and get on his knees. The employee complied and the suspect removed an undisclosed amount of cash from the safe. The suspect fled the business in a northwest direction, across Route 273. The employee was not injured as a result of the incident.
The suspect is described as a black male approximately 20-30 years old wearing a black jacket, black pants, light-colored shoes, and a mask.
