Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal pedestrian crash that occurred late Wednesday night in Felton, according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Heather Pepper.
Pepper said on January 5, 2022, at approximately 11:12 p.m., a 2011 Nissan Rogue was traveling southbound on S. DuPont Hwy (US 13), in the left lane, just north of Peach Basket Road. At the same time, a 55-year-old Harrington woman was near the center of the left lane of southbound S. DuPont Highway, just north of Peach Basket Road. As a result, the Nissan struck the pedestrian near the center of the left lane with its front bumper. The vehicle continued southbound a short distance and stopped in the left lane of S. DuPont Highway, just south of Peach Basket Road.
Pepper said the 55-year-old Harrington woman was dressed in dark clothing and was not carrying any light. She was pronounced deceased at the scene. Identification is pending notification to next of kin.
The 17-year-old driver, a Harrington resident, was uninjured during the collision.
S. DuPont Hwy was closed for approximately 3 hours for the crash investigation.
