Eight Injured In Three Accidents On The Same Road Saturday In Newark

Just after 8:30 Saturday evening Newark Police along with crews from  Hospital via Aetna Hose Hook & Ladder Company, New Castle County Paramedics (NCCEMS) and Trooper 4 were dispatched to  Christina Parkway (Route 4) in the area of Science Blvd. for reports of a pedestrian struck in the roadway –

Initial reports from the scene indicate that the patient was seriously – Route 4 was closed between Elkton Road and Route 896 while Newark Police investigated the accident.

About an hour and a half later at approximately 9:55 p.m., New Castle County Paramedics, Aetna Hose Hook & Ladder Company, Christiana Fire Company, and University of Delaware Emergency Care Unit were dispatched to the intersection of East Chestnut Hill Road (Route 4) and Gender Road for reports of a motor vehicle collision with entrapment.

Upon arrival, New Castle County Paramedics found a multiple vehicle accident with a total of 6 patients. A 17-
year-old male was treated for possible head and upper extremity injuries. He was transported to Christiana
Hospital via Aetna Hose Hook & Ladder Company, accompanied by New Castle County Paramedics, in stable
condition.

Five additional patients, ranging in age from 15 to 21, were evaluated and treated for minor injuries. Delaware State Police are investigating the crash.

At approximately 10:35 p.m., New Castle County Paramedics and Aetna Hose Hook & Ladder Company were dispatched to the 400 block of Christina Parkway for reports of a motor vehicle collision with rollover.

When officers arrived on scene they found a single vehicle that had rolled into the woods and struck a
utility pole trapping the female driver.

NCCEMS Spokeswoman Assistant PIO Emily Mallon said a 36-year-old female was trapped in the vehicle and was extricated after approximately 15 minutes. She was treated for a possible head injury and transported to Christiana Hospital via Aetna Hose Hook & Ladder Company, accompanied by New Castle County Paramedics, in stable condition.
