Police: Two Glasgow HS Students Charged With Felony Rioting After Fight

The Delaware State Police have arrested two juvenile females with Inciting a Riot and related charges after a large fight that occurred at Glasgow High School yesterday, according to Public Information Officer, Senior Corporal Jason Hatchell.

Hatchell said the initial investigation began on Tuesday, February 8, 2022, at approximately 11:39 a.m., when the Delaware State Police School Resource Officer (SRO) at Glasgow High School located at 1901 South College Avenue in Newark was made aware of a fight involving 8 students in the stairwell of the school.

The SRO and school staff members broke up the initial fight, but then the group separated in 4 separate smaller groups and continued actively fighting throughout the hallways. Numerous officers responded to the school and were able to assist in taking 9 students into custody. One of the suspects, a 17-year-old female was located in possession of a taser said Hatchell. There was one student who sustained lacerations to the face as a result of the fight.

A total of nine students were taken into custody and transported to Troop 2. Seven students were issued criminal summons for disorderly conduct.

One 17-year-old female suspect was charged with Rioting (Felony), Carrying a Concealed Dangerous Instrument, Menacing, and Disorderly Conduct. She was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 11 and released on $2,200.00 unsecured bond.

The second 17-year-old suspect was charged with Rioting (Felony), Resisting Arrest, and Disorderly Conduct. She was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 11 and released on $2,200.00 unsecured bond.

Yesterday we told you that as the fight escalated into what was described as a “riot”, the School Resource Officer declared a 10-40, an officer in trouble urgent message. We also told you that someone had been tased during the incident.

Hatchell did elaborate on who was tased or if the SRO deployed his taser.
