Suspect Charged In String Of Newark-Area Armed Robberies

Delaware State Police have arrested Robinson Rivera, 40, of Newark, DE, for multiple robberies and related charges following three incidents that occurred in early February, according to Public Information Officer, Senior Corporal Jason Hatchell.

Hatchell said the first incident occurred at approximately 7:30 p.m., on Thursday, February 3, 2022, at the Exxon gas station, located at 4600 Ogletown Stanton Road, Newark, when troopers responded to an armed robbery. The investigation determined a male suspect entered the store, displayed a handgun, and approached a male employee behind the sales counter. The suspect demanded money from the cash register and the employee complied said Hatchell. The suspect the fled the business on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash, westbound towards the Harbor Club Apartments. The employee was not injured as a result of the incident.

The second incident occurred at approximately 9:37 a.m., on Saturday, February 5, 2022, when troopers responded to the Dash In, located at 1148 Christiana Road, Newark, for an armed robbery. The investigation determined a male suspect entered the store and confronted an employee behind the sales counter. The suspect displayed a handgun and demanded money from the cash register said Hatchell. The employee complied and the suspect fled the scene on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash. The suspect was last seen running towards the rear of the business onto westbound Greentree Road.

The third incident occurred on occurred at approximately 7:35 p.m., on Thursday, February 10, 2022, when troopers responded to the BP gas station, located at 98 University Plaza, Newark, for an armed robbery. The investigation determined a male suspect entered the store and confronted an employee behind the sales counter. The suspect displayed a handgun and demanded money from the cash register said Hatchell. The employee complied and the suspect fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Hatchell said the Delaware State Police in collaboration with New Castle County Police Department, were able to determine through investigative leads that Robinson Rivera was the suspect. Later the evening on February 10, 2022, troopers responded to a residence on Brownleaf Road, Newark, and took the suspect in custody.

Rivera was transported to Delaware State Police Troop 2 where he was charged with the following crimes:

Robbery 1st Degree (Felony)- 3 counts
Wearing a Disguise During the Commission of Felony (Felony)- 3 counts
Rivera was arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court #11 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $63,000 cash bond.
