Woman Injured In New Castle Motel Fire Dies At Crozer Medical Center

The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s office continues its investigation into the March 8, 2022 fire at a New Castle motel that fatally injured a  woman.

Assistant State Fire Marshal Michael Chionchio said that the 53-year-old Mantua Township, New Jersey woman injured in the Tuesday morning blaze has succumbed to her injuries.

The blaze, reported shortly before 4:00 am, occurred at the Quality Inn at 147 N. DuPont Highway near the New Castle County Airport. The Wilmington Manor Fire Company arrived on the scene with smoke coming from a ground-level room. Firefighters pulled the woman from inside the burning room. New Castle County paramedics resuscitated the victim and rushed her to the Christiana Hospital. She was later transferred to Crozer Medical Center in Upland, Pennsylvania on March 8, 2022 in critical condition suffering from burns and smoke inhalation. She died the next day.

 

Nine fire deaths have occurred so far this year in Delaware compared with ten for the entire year of 2021. The cause of this fire remains under investigation.
