A Wilmington Police investigation has resulted in an arrest in connection with an April 23 shooting incident.
Officials said on April 23 at approximately 1:21 p.m., police were dispatched to the 800 block of East 26th Street. Responding officers located an 18-year-old female gunshot victim who was transported to the hospital in stable condition.
The case was assigned to Detective Kevin Nolan of the Criminal Investigations Division. Through the course of his investigation, Detective Nolan identified 22-year-old Jaquan Baynard as a suspect police said Friday. An arrest warrant was secured for Baynard, who was taken into custody with the assistance of the Street Crimes Unit on April 27.
Baynard was charged with the following offenses:
Assault 1st Degree
Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony
Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited
Reckless Endangering 1st Degree (2 counts)
Criminal Mischief Under $1,000
He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $126,200 cash-only bail.
