Newark Woman Indicted In 2021 Fatal Motorcycle Accident

Just after 6;00 Tuesday evening, July 27, 2021, Newark Police responded to the intersection of Library Avenue and Wyoming Road for a report of a crash involving a motorcycle, Lt. Andrew Rubin said at the time.

Rubin said the investigation at the scene determined that a 2005 Yamaha motorcycle was traveling southbound in the straight lane on Library Avenue, approaching the intersection with Wyoming Road. A 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee, operated by a 66-year-old Cynthia Lovell, of Newark, was traveling northbound in the left turn lane on Library Avenue approaching Wyoming Road.

The Jeep turned left in front of the motorcycle and the motorcycle collided with the Jeep, according to Rubin. The operator of the motorcycle, Kevin Random Jr., 26, of Dover, was pronounced dead at the scene. Lovell was not injured. Impairment was not a factor on the part of either driver, said Rubin.

Rubin said on April 12, 2022, a New Castle County Grand Jury indicted the operator of the Jeep Grand Cherokee, Cynthia Lovell, 67, of Newark, on one count of Operating a Vehicle Causing Death of Another for her involvement in this fatal collision.

On April 27, 2022, Lovell turned herself into the Newark Police Department. Lovell appeared before Justice of the Peace Court #2 and was released on her own recognizance.
