Unsecured Bond Issued For Dover Burglary Charge

The Dover Police Department investigated a burglary that occurred at a Dollar General store at 282 South DuPont Highway in February, according to Public Information Office Sergeant Mark Hoffman.

Hoffman said the incident occurred at approximately 6:27 a.m. February 28th, 2022, when a suspect, later identified as Ronald Matthews, 54, of Dover, broke a front glass door to the business with a hammer.

The suspect then entered and attempted to steal tobacco products from a locked case. After failing to gain entry to the tobacco items, the suspect stole multiple containers of laundry detergent before fleeing said Hooman. The suspect fled the scene riding a teal-colored bicycle.

During the investigation, Matthews was developed as a suspect, and warrants were obtained for his arrest. Matthews was being held at SCI on unrelated charges when the warrant was obtained. Matthews was issued a $4,000 unsecured bond on the following offenses: -Burglary 3rd Degree -Possession of Burglary Tools -Theft Under $1,500 -Criminal Mischief.
