New Castle County Police are investigating a vehicle accident that took the life of a dog, police said Monday.
Officials said last Friday afternoon, at 1:30 p.m., patrol officers were dispatched to the 100 block of Liberty Blvd. in the community of West Minquadale for the report of a traffic crash.
When the officers arrived, they learned from witnesses that a grey Volkswagon Jetta had driven up the front lawn of a residence on Liberty Blvd. at a high rate of speed. As it went onto the lawn it missed several other witnesses but struck and ran over a dog according to police.
The officers also learned from witnesses that the driver, 40-year-old Michelle Brogan, waited at the scene for a few minutes, but drove away in the Jetta prior to their arrival, said officials.
Brogan did eventually return to the scene and was then driven back to her house so that the officers could view her vehicle.
Officers were then able to take Brogan into custody and transported her to police headquarters. There she was charged with two counts of felony Reckless Endangering, and the following traffic offenses, one count of Driving Under the Influence (Drugs), one count of Reckless Driving, one count of Malicious Mischief by a Motor Vehicle, one count of Failure to Have Required Insurance, one count of Leaving the Scene of a Property Damage Accident, and one count of Driving in Proper Lane/ Direction.
