Delaware State Police arrested 22-year-old Michael Yang of Wilmington, on weapon and related charges following a criminal investigation, according to Public Information Officer, Sergeant India Sturgis.
Sturgis said on May 15, 2022, at approximately 3:11 p.m., troopers responded to the 2400 block of Silverside Road in Wilmington, for a criminal investigation. Michael Yang, who called 911, later pulled into the driveway where the trooper was parked. While contacting Michael, the trooper smelled an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle and noticed Michael was showing signs of possible impairment said Sturgis. The trooper gave commands for Michael to keep his vehicle parked and remain within the vehicle. Michael then attempted to back his vehicle into the police vehicle, at which time the trooper again gave commands for him to stop and exit the vehicle. Michael complied and exited his vehicle. Upon the trooper attempting to take Michael into custody, he resisted arrest. Eventually, the trooper was able to take Michael into custody. A subsequent search of Michael’s vehicle led to the discovery of a firearm. No one was injured during the incident.
Michael was transported to Troop 1, where he was charged with the following crimes:
Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon (Felony)
Resisting Arrest
Possession of a Firearm While Under the Influence
Driving a Vehicle Under the Influence
Michael was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court # 11, where he was released on a $7000 unsecured bond.
