Police: Lewes Man Charged With DUI After Crashing Into Patrol Vehicle

On June 14th, 2022 Milford Police charge a Lewes man following an impaired driving investigation in a construction zone.

Officials said at approximately 9:13 pm, an officer from the Milford Police Department was working a special duty assignment assisting with traffic control at a road construction site on North Rehoboth Boulevard and Northeast Front Street (SR 14).

The officer, who was out of the vehicle directing traffic, observed a 2010 Ford Expedition enter the construction site and strike a fully marked 2016 Chevrolet Police Tahoe police said. The police vehicle’s emergency equipment was fully activated at the time of this collision.

As a result of this collision the operator of the Ford was evaluated by Frederica Fire Company staff for a leg injury, but declined transport for further evaluation at an area hospital.

Evan Fitzgerald, 22 of Lewes, was taken into custody and charged with Driving a Vehicle Under the Influence of Alcohol, Operate a Motor Vehicle In Violation of Restrictions, and Failure to Obey and Traffic Control Device.

Fitzgerald is scheduled for an arraignment at the Justice of the Peace Court #7 in Dover next month.
