Officials: Escaped Sussex Community Corrections Center Inmate Apprehended Thursday

The Delaware Department of Correction said that an Inmate at Sussex Community Corrections Center (SCCC) in Georgetown walked away from an approved outside work assignment at the facility Thursday morning.

FSU has learned that area offices were placed on lockdown at around 11:30, while officials searched for Ryan Gray, 26, of Georgetown, who is serving time for burglary and criminal mischief. Area residents report that Trooper 2 was circling the prison for about an hour starting just before 10:30.

Officials said Gray walked away from the grounds of SCCC while working an approved outside assignment within the facilities programs area.  Gray was apprehended by the Sussex Escapee Recovery Team.

At around 1:30 officials lifted the lockdown of area businesses.
