Newark Police have arrested two in connection incident that lead to multiple calls for service, according to Lt. Andrew Rubin.
Rubin said on Thursday evening at about 7:52, Newark Police responded to the area of South College Avenue and East Delaware Avenue for a report of a person shot by a water pellet. The victim reported that while walking on South College Avenue, a black Mercedes drove by and the occupants shot the victim with a water pellet said Rubin. The victim was not injured.
Seven additional victims contacted Newark Police and reported similar conduct from the described vehicle. None of the victims required medical treatment. The incidents occurred on East and West Delaware Avenues, East Main Street, Center Street and East Cleveland Avenue.
Shortly after the initial report, the suspect’s vehicle was stopped by a University of Delaware Police Officer on East Cleveland Avenue. The two occupants of the vehicle were taken into custody and turned over to Newark Police. Two water pellet guns were found in the vehicle said Rubin.
The driver was identified as Rebecca Jefferson, 18, of New Castle, and the passenger was identified as Jaluan Knight, 18, of Newark.
The suspects were transported to Newark Police headquarters where they were charged with:
Offensive Touching (8 counts)
Conspiracy Third Degree
Disorderly Conduct
They both appeared before Justice of the Peace Court #11 by video and were released on $5,500 unsecured bail.
