At approximately 10:20 pm, New Castle County Paramedics (NCCEMS), Christiana Fire Company,
and Aetna Hose, Hook, & Ladder Company were dispatched to Interstate 95 southbound in the area of the rest area for a motor vehicle collision with entrapment involving a box truck.
NCCEMS Assistant PIO Oliver Kocher said upon arrival, New Castle County Paramedics found multiple patients trapped.
An approximately 30-year-old male patient was trapped in a sedan. The patient remained trapped for approximately 20 minutes while crews worked to extricate him. The patient suffered head and suspected internal injuries. The patient was treated on scene by New Castle County Paramedics and was transported to Christiana Hospital via Christiana Fire Company ambulance, accompanied by New Castle County Paramedics. The patient was in critical condition at the time of transport.
A 20-year-old male was trapped in a box truck. The patient remained trapped for approximately 20 minutes while crews worked to rescue him. The patient suffered suspected back, pelvic, and internal injuries. The patient was treated on scene by New Castle County Paramedics and was transported to Christiana Hospital via Aetna Hose, Hook, & Ladder Company ambulance, accompanied by New Castle County Paramedics. The patient was in serious condition at the time of transport.
A third male patient was transported to Christiana Hospital by ambulance with less serious injuries.
I-95 SB was closed while crews worked to clear the accident. Motorists were directed through the service center.
