Delaware State Police have arrested Wilson Velez, 24, of Oxford, Pennsylvania, for attempted murder and related charges following a shooting that occurred at a Wilmington area bar in October.
Officials said on October 19, 2022, at approximately 12:12 a.m., troopers responded to the Overtime Bar and Grill, located at 105 Kirkwood Square in Wilmington, regarding a shooting that had just occurred. The ensuing investigation revealed that a 26-year-old male victim from New Castle, Delaware had a verbal altercation with a group of individuals inside the bar. During the altercation, one suspect displayed a handgun and fired multiple rounds at the victim said police. The victim was struck one time in the shoulder. The victim was transported to an area hospital where he was medically treated and released. No other individuals were injured.
Through investigative means, troopers identified the suspect as Wilson Velez and obtained a warrant for his arrest. On December 16, 2022, with the assistance of Pennsylvania State Police, Velez was located inside a residence in Oxford and taken into custody without incident. On December 20, 2022, Velez was extradited back to Delaware and transported to Troop 2 where he was charged with the following crimes:
- Attempted Murder First Degree (Felony)
- Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony (Felony)
- Possession of a Firearm by Person Prohibited and Previously Convicted of a Violent Felony (Felony)
- Reckless Endangering Second Degree
- Criminal Mischief
Velez was arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court #2 and committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $1,081,100.00 cash bond.
