Police Release Details In Dover Gunpoint Police Stop Friday

Delaware State Police are investigating a shooting that occurred in the Greenwood area on Thursday evening.

On December 1, 2022, at approximately 7:12 p.m., troopers responded to the 13,000 block of Bender Farm Road for a reported shooting. When troopers arrived at the scene, they discovered that a 62-year-old male victim had sustained a gunshot wound to the lower extremity and a stab wound to the upper torso area. The victim was transported to an area hospital for serious injuries. The suspect, 43-year-oldĀ Roger McBroom Jr., had fled the scene before police arrived said police. The relationship between McBroom and the victim will remain undisclosed.

On December 2, 2022, at approximately 8:57 a.m., Capital Police and Dover Police Department responded to the Delaware State Police Headquarters for a suspicious male. The suspicious male, later identified as Roger McBroom Jr., again fled the scene in a vehicle before police arrived. Dover Police Department observed the suspect vehicle traveling on North Dupont Highway. They attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but McBroom refused to stop the vehicle. The suspect was taken into custody after his vehicle became stuck in traffic. McBroom was eventually transported to Troop 3, where he was charged with the following crimes:

  • Assault 1st Degree (Felony)
  • Aggravated Menacing- 2 counts (Felony)
  • Possession of a Deadly Weapon During Commission of Felony- 2 counts (Felony)

McBroom was arraigned by the Justice of the Peace Court #2 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $126,000 secured bond.
